The Christening: a celebration of your child
Your child’s birth is a tremendously momentous occasion in your life. Celebrating his or her arrival into the world with family and friends is often a wonderful way to surround your new addition with love. Whether you’re religious or not, there are a variety of traditional gatherings that will allow you to introduce your new arrival to family and friends. Usually held within the first year of the baby’s life, these events always include a photographer to capture every smile and an elaborate outfit for the new baby.
Religious Ceremonies
For many Christians, the Christening is the first initiation into religious faith for a child. During the ceremony, the baby is baptized with holy water and a candle is lit to represent Jesus as the light of the world. The godparents are recognized as a part of the family unit and the entire family is welcomed by the congregation. In a Catholic service, the Christening is generally held in a separate service while in other Protestant religions the ceremony is held during regular Sunday services. Whether Protestant or Catholic, parents generally speak to the Priest or Reverend before the service so they fully understand the significance of the baptism for them, the child and the godparents.
Non-Religious Gatherings
For those who want to celebrate their new baby with a non-religious gathering, many choose to have a Baby Naming or a Welcoming Ceremony. Here friends and family gather with readings, poetry and music to commemorate the new arrival. These ceremonies can be held at home, at a restaurant or party venue, or outside. As these gatherings are not formal, parents can select a program that highlights the people in their lives who have supported them through the pregnancy and will continue to play an important role in their baby’s life.
The Party Begins
Whether you are having a religious baptism or social baby naming, there is generally an informal party held afterwards where friends and family get the chance to meet the baby and express their congratulations to the new parents. These events can range from buffet dinners to high tea and are usually filled with music, food, and laughter. Favors are generally given to guests at the party to commemorate this special occasion. At Favor Favor Baby you’ll find a host of baby shower favors that will match every decor or theme. One of the most popular baby shower favors of all time is a picture frame, a wonderful memento to hold a picture of the tiny newborn and remind guests of this wonderful day.
