The Columbus Day holiday provides parents an easy opportunity to educate their children about Italian Heritage Month, which is observed every October. Christopher Columbus, of course, was Italian, but there are plenty of other opportunities to learn about Italian culture – from the library, where children can read about the bevy of other Italian explorers, such as Marco Polo, to the dinner table, where families can feast on Italian food and learn about the cultural importance of the entire family getting together over dinner.

Turn it into a family activity by giving the kids some construction paper, magic markers and scissors and asking them to draw ghosts. Put the ghosts up on the window and voila! An almost instant decoration!

Give the kids magic markers and let them design the pumpkins before Mom and Dad pick up the knife and do the actual carving. When Mom and Dad are done, hand the pumpkins to the kids to take and display on the porch. What a great way to spend a fall evening!
