Kids do the darndest things!

Just when you think you’ve seen all the funny things kids do, and heard all the humorous anecdotes of things they say out of the blue or at exactly the wrong time, along comes a kid who takes the… It was a Saturday in July when my best friend Leslie had her baby shower. Her mother and her sister were coordinating a lovely shower to be held during lunchtime in the private party room of a nearby Italian restaurant. With about 40 women-only invitees, the joint was soon to be jumping. As guests arrived, gifts were placed in a lonely corner of the room. With the 40 women who attended it seemed as if there were mountains of gifts. All I could think was, “Great! We are going to have to wait and sit through Leslie opening all these gifts.” I was hoping that they would get started as soon as possible. (more…)

Men at baby showers: baby shower bards!

I was asked to attend the baby shower of a good friend, and I knew to expect something bizarre, poignant, and utterly memorable, because the family giving the party was very eccentric.  At the shower, there weren’t really many decorations but there were a few men. So much for the usual women-only protocol, I thought to myself. I chalked it up to a cultural thing.  Anyway, during other baby showers I’ve been to, I’ve seen popular games such as baby shower bingo and the like.  Here, though, our hosts asked us to write little poems about the expectant couple and the baby-to-be. Top 10 baby shower themes

Top 10 Themes for Baby Showers
When preparing for a baby shower, one of the most fun elements to planning the party is selecting a theme. Although a theme isn’t necessarily essential, it does create a nice cohesive event that can reflect characteristics of the future parents’ personalities, bring in colors or design elements of the future nursery, and provide endless fun for friends and family.
A fun way to select a theme is to traipse down memory lane to some of your own childhood favorites or to go shopping with the soon-to-be parents and find out what interests them. If you are still stumped, check out some of the adorable favors available at www.FavorFavor.com. There you can find a wide selection of items from elegantly beautiful to adorably cute.
Baby Showers for twins are always fun and often have themes like ‘Two Peas in a Pod’ or ‘Perfect Pair.’ Whatever theme you decide to choose, always remember to include some whimsical fun to highlight the innocence and joy of this special occasion.
Here are some of today’s most popular baby shower themes:
Traditional Blue or Pink – Just a simple color can tie in all your decor and favors, making it a truly beautiful event.
Diapers, Pacifiers & Other Baby Essentials – Precious little diapers, old fashioned baby strollers, and playful pacifiers make wonderful additions to your party.
Winnie the Pooh – The ever-adorable Pooh Bear has comforted children for decades and remains an enduring favorite.
Noah’s Ark – A cute ark overflowing with baby animals makes a great theme for when you aren’t sure if it is a boy or a girl. The wide selection of animals makes it appropriate for either sex, while also being fun and fanciful.
Little Lamb – A soft baby lamb is an iconic symbol for a new baby. The sweet little lamb can gracefully jump over tables with fun centerpieces and matching wall decorations.
Teddy Bears – A classic, the teddy bear is great for boys or girls. If you know the baby’s sex, you can customize the bear theme by adding blue or pink accents.
Twinkle Little Star – One of the first songs you ever sang, this theme is fantastic for any baby-related event, but especially for outdoor evening parties over the summer.
Little Angels – There isn’t anything more angelic than a newborn baby. Embrace their cherubic joy with this theme.
Nursery Rhymes – Whether you’ve always liked Humpty Dumpty or that cow that jumped over the moon, your guests will have fun with this nostalgic look back into their childhood.
Animals of the Rain Forest – Smiling monkeys and frolicking frogs peak out behind lush green trees, transforming your event into a delightful jungle adventure!

Although a theme isn’t necessarily essential, it does create a nice cohesive event that can reflect characteristics of the future parents’ personalities, bring in colors or design elements of the future nursery, and provide endless fun for friends and family.
